Casa Sayrach

Completed in 1918, Casa Sayrach came at the tail end of the Modernisme movement, after many of its leading architects had already moved on stylistically, and its flowing balconies and organic stonework show the style pushed to one of its later, more sculptural extremes. Designed by Manuel Sayrach i Carreras, an architect far less documented than Gaudí or Puig i Cadafalch, the building remains privately owned and residential, with no public interior access. Its handful of reviews, almost entirely in Catalan and Spanish, suggest it's barely known outside architecture circles despite a near-perfect rating from those who've sought it out. A genuine hidden gem for Modernisme completists walking Diagonal, best appreciated from the street.
