Climb Mount Lycabettus for one of Athens' defining vantage points over the whole city. Follow the stairs past wild cats and viewpoints, then watch the sky change from the summit.

📖

Full description

Mount Lycabettus is the prominent limestone peak above central Athens, topped with an open-air concert venue and reachable on foot or by cable car. The climb is a short, relatively easy walk up a series of stairs, with views opening along the path and wild cats often seen on the way.

At the summit, panoramas run from the Parliament to the Panathenaic Stadium and beyond. It is especially busy at sunset, when visitors gather to watch the flag lowering.

About 75 minutes covers the ascent, viewpoints and descent.

Reviews

Short relatively easy hike up a bunch of stairs and incredible views along the walking path. Lots of wild cats too. Very busy at the top around sunset, so we chose to go slightly down and sit on the edge where we found an incredible view.
