Oude Kerk Amsterdam

4.4 ·

Enter the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam's oldest standing building, in the middle of the old centre. Study its wooden ceilings and medieval architecture, and see what exhibition or concert the church is hosting.

📖

Full description

The Oude Kerk is regarded as one of the most historically important buildings in Amsterdam, and its wooden ceiling and architectural detail are frequently praised. Today it operates as a venue for exhibitions, concerts and cultural activity as well as a place of Calvinist worship, which gives each visit a different character.

Recent reviewers report that temporary art installations inside, including one involving sand and earth, can detract from the architecture for some visitors. It carries a mid-range ticket and typically takes around an hour, so check what is currently on display before you enter.

Reviews

The exhibit with the dirt and weird objects inside the church ruined my experience. It underwhelmed the beauty of the church that is otherwise beautiful! The ceilings are wooden and have intricate details! The exhibition makes zero sense honestly.
