Explore the National Maritime Museum, a former naval storehouse with a glass-roofed courtyard on Amsterdam's waterfront. Board the replica 18th-century merchant ship and try virtual voyages across the interactive exhibitions.

📖

Full description

Set in a former naval storehouse on the waterside, the National Maritime Museum covers the Netherlands' seafaring past through varied exhibitions, interactive displays and virtual voyages. A glass-covered courtyard gives the building a bright, open feel, and the replica merchant ship and other boats in the harbour can be boarded.

Reviewers describe the visit as calm and well suited to families with infants, and one spent five hours without seeing everything. Allow at least two hours, longer if you like to read every panel, and book ahead where possible.

Reviews

Had a lovely time touring the VOC ship, the Royal Barge and the Maritime Museum. Lovely courtyard to rest and have a bite to eat with a very unique roof. Well worth the visit. Also between this Museum and Nemo Science Museum there are static displays of ships and equipment you can view for free.
