Pop into De Krijtberg, a neo-Gothic church tucked into Amsterdam's centre. Look at the stained-glass windows and sculptures, and stay a while if music is playing.

📖

Full description

De Krijtberg is a neo-Gothic Catholic church from the 19th century, set on a busy street in the centre of Amsterdam. Inside, visitors find historic art, detailed sculptures and large stained-glass windows that reviewers say look best in sunlight.

Entry is free, and many describe stumbling upon it by accident, sometimes during a concert, when the acoustics stand out. Candles can be lit for a small donation.

Opening hours are limited to the afternoon, so plan ahead. A visit of around half an hour suits couples and anyone interested in church architecture.

Reviews

Nice and warm place to visit. The glass stained windows are amazing in the sun with nice, detailed sculptures of all sizes. It was free to visit so a 15-minute detour is a must.
