4.8 ·

Pause at the Maria Theresa Memorial, the commanding tribute to Austria's famous empress. Circle the pedestal to examine the carved figures and enjoy the park between the two grand museums.

📖

Full description

Standing between the Kunsthistorisches and Natural History museums, the Maria Theresa Memorial presents the empress seated high on a pedestal, surrounded by sculpted generals, statesmen and scholars of her reign. Reviewers praise the detail of the statues and the tidy park around them, and say it works well even as a quick look from the outside.

It is open at all hours and free, so it fits easily into a walk along the Ringstrasse. About 15 minutes is enough to circle the monument and read its figures.

The square also gives good views of both museum facades.
