Santa Croce

Slip into Santa Croce, a lesser-visited corner of Venice near Piazzale Roma. Walk its quiet canal-side lanes and small campos, and see everyday Venetian life away from the main sightseeing routes.

📖

Full description

Santa Croce is one of the less touristed sestieri of Venice and the one nearest to the city's road and bus arrival point at Piazzale Roma. Because of that, it mixes transport infrastructure with quiet residential streets, local shops, and small campos where daily routines are visible.

Canal-side walks here are calmer than in San Marco, and the district's churches and palazzi can be explored without queues. It makes a good short stop for visitors who want to see an unpolished side of Venice, ideally combined with neighbouring San Polo or Dorsoduro.
