Santa Maria dei Miracoli grew from a street Madonna belonging to the Amadi family, which drew attention after reported miraculous events in 1481. The result is a compact church clad in marble, with a barrel-vaulted ceiling decorated with painted panels.

Reviewers describe a peaceful, jewel-like interior, away from the heaviest tourist traffic, and recommend sitting for a while to take in the marble walls and ceiling. A small entrance fee applies, and a visit takes around 15 minutes.

The marble jewel of Cannaregio. Off the beaten path, and far from tourist crowds. This is the real Venice. Free entry when we went in late April. Sit and marvel at the marble walls and amazing ceiling. Definitely not one to miss.
