Step into Santa Fosca, a small Byzantine church with a Greek cross plan and brick interior. Spend a few quiet minutes inside, then circle the surrounding square for different views of the building.
Full description
Santa Fosca is a modest Byzantine-influenced church in Cannaregio, laid out on a Greek cross plan and built to house the remains of a martyr. Reviewers mention its brick interior, a friendly resident cat, and the pleasant surrounding square, where you can view the church from several angles.
Entry is free, but photography inside is discouraged, so it is best enjoyed as a short, quiet visit of around 15 minutes. It suits those looking for a less crowded corner of the sestiere.

A beautiful Byzantine style church with brick interiors. Was greeted warmly by a friendly cat! They ask you not to take photos inside here though. I suggest visiting the island as early as possible, as it gets busy after 11am.
