Arco de la Macarena

4.6 ·

Pass beneath the Arco de la Macarena, a yellow gate that has guarded Seville's northern edge for centuries. Follow the surviving city wall and moat beside it, then continue on to the nearby basilica.

📖

Full description

The Arco de la Macarena is one of the few remaining gates of the walls that once enclosed Seville, standing at the northern edge of the Casco Antiguo. Its yellow-washed facade mixes Islamic and classical elements, and a long run of the original wall, with traces of the moat, extends alongside it.

Reviewers note that the arch itself is modest but works well as a quick photo stop combined with the neighbouring Macarena Basilica. The area is open at all hours, so it fits easily into an evening walk as well as a morning one.

Reviews

A good looking arch near the Macarena Basilica. Make sure you have a look at the remnants of the Roman defensive walls adjacent to the arch.
