The Park of the Aqueducts

4.7 ·

Wander into open countryside on Rome's southern edge at the Park of the Aqueducts. Walk beneath towering Roman aqueducts striding across green fields, the same quiet, cinematic scenery Fellini once filmed.

✨

Reasons to go

  • The park preserves standing sections of the ancient Aqua Claudia and Aqua Felice aqueducts spanning open pastureland.
  • Its wide-open, rural setting made it a favored filming location for director Federico Fellini.
  • Entry is free and unrestricted, with no fixed opening hours.
📖

Full description

The Parco degli Acquedotti preserves several ancient Roman aqueducts, including sections of the Aqua Claudia and Aqua Felice, running for kilometres across open pastureland on the city's outskirts. The scale and setting are strikingly different from Rome's dense historic centre, giving the sense of stepping into open countryside while ancient engineering looms overhead — a combination that made it a favoured filming location for Federico Fellini.

Reviewers consistently describe an almost otherworldly sense of peace here, rare for a site this significant historically.

Reviews

One of the most amazing parks I’ve been to! The beauty of the ancient world preserved with natural greenery makes this park so peaceful. Almost like a dystopian world.
