Full description
Built as a country retreat for Pope Julius III in the 1550s, Villa Giulia now houses the world's most important collection of Etruscan civilization artifacts, anchored by the terracotta Sarcophagus of the Spouses depicting a reclining married couple. Reviewers single out an unusually well-produced introductory video and the sheer scope of objects - bronzes, ceramics, jewelry, and tomb goods - spanning centuries of pre-Roman Italy.
A 4.7 rating and top marks across must-see, culture, and aesthetic scores place it among Rome's essential collections, even though it sits slightly off the main tourist path and rewards those who specifically seek out ancient Italian history beyond Rome itself. The villa's courtyards and gardens are worth exploring in their own right.

Spectacular place. Peaceful, so much to see— what a gem of Rome. As a perfumer teaching botanical perfumery workshops (Flora et Alchimia), I loved seeing all of the perfume and oil bottles. A very special place. Will definitely return!
