Built in the decades around 1900 to honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy, the monument also houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beneath an eternal flame. Its bright white Brescian marble and monumental staircases dominate Piazza Venezia and much of the historic center's skyline, drawing both admiration and — since its construction required demolishing part of the medieval city — decades of local criticism over its scale.
The main terrace and stairs are free, while the rooftop terrace and small museums inside require tickets. The rooftop, reached by a glass elevator, gives one of the best 360-degree views over Rome.

I mean those stairs... Oh my gosh. However, it felt like an accomplishment once you got to the top. Taking the elevator even further up to the roof for an incredible view of Rome was definitely worth it. I really enjoyed my day here.
