Hike up to Vítkov, the wooded hilltop topped by Prague's colossal equestrian statue. Explore the memorial inside, then climb to the top for a free panorama over the city.

📖

Full description

Vítkov is a hilltop memorial built in 1929 and set on a long stone platform ringed by woods, crowned by a very large equestrian statue visible across the city. Reviewers say the scale only becomes clear up close, and recommend going inside the memorial building for history and context, then climbing to the top for free views over Prague.

It is closed on Mondays. The slope is steep, so walking effort is higher than for most central landmarks, and the adjacent military museum makes a natural pairing during the roughly hour-long visit.

Reviews

A lovely monument on top of a hill watching over Prague. You can't take in the scale of the statue until your closer, it's simply huge! A must see and also combined with the military museum close by, its a great double event side by side. Just be aware it's on quite a steep hill.
