New Town Hall

4.6 ·

Climb the New Town Hall, the 14th-century seat of Prague's Nové Město and the setting for the city's first defenestration. Walk up the tower for sweeping views, then explore the exhibitions inside.

📖

Full description

The New Town Hall in Nové Město dates to the 14th century and is best known as the site of the first Prague defenestration in 1419, an event that helped trigger the Hussite wars. Today visitors can climb the 70-metre tower for 360-degree views over the city, although reviewers note a wire mesh slightly affects photography.

There is no lift, but the ascent is described as manageable, with a clean toilet about halfway up. Exhibitions and guided tours add historical context.

It draws fewer crowds than the Old Town's more famous towers, making it a quieter alternative for views.

Reviews

A must when going to Prague. For some reason this attraction doesn't seem to attract as much attention as others in Prague. The views from the top are absolutely amazing. There are no lifts to the top. The stairs themselves seem ancient and arguably qualify as an exhibit alone. Anyone near 6 foot and above will…
