Catch an evening at the National Theatre, the Neo-Renaissance landmark on the Vltava embankment. Take your seat in its ornate auditorium for opera, ballet or drama, and stroll the riverside before the curtain rises.

📖

Full description

The National Theatre is the leading stage of the Czech Republic and one of its national symbols, standing on the Vltava embankment in Nové Město. Its Neo-Renaissance architecture is striking from outside, particularly when lit at night, and the interior is richly decorated.

The programme combines opera, ballet and theatre, so an evening here is as much about the building as the performance. Seats are often in demand, and reviewers advise planning ahead for ballet or drama.

Allow roughly two and a half hours for a typical performance including the intervals.
