Basilica of St. James the Greater

4.7 ·

Step into the Basilica of St. James the Greater, one of Old Town's most atmospheric baroque churches. Admire the crowded altars and sculpted interior, then find the mummified hand hanging from a chain near the entrance.

📖

Full description

Tucked into Staré Město just off the tourist circuit, the Basilica of St. James the Greater is a large baroque church whose interior is packed with sculpture, altars and painted detail.

Entry is free and visits are short, around 20 minutes, which makes it an easy addition to a central sightseeing walk. Its most talked-about curiosity is a mummified human hand dangling from a chain near the entrance, a detail that gives the otherwise grand space a gothic edge.

Visitors describe the atmosphere inside as both imposing and calm, with rope barriers protecting some of the side benches.
