4.8 ·

Pop into Castro, a Porto atelier devoted to the pastel de nata. Watch the tarts being made and taste a fresh one with a coffee.

📖

Full description

Castro is an atelier dedicated to pastéis de nata, with a Lisbon sibling that regular visitors compare it to. Reviewers say the tarts are always fresh and that the egg custard holds its shape instead of oozing across the plate, with balanced sweetness.

One suggestion that recurs is to order both a darker, more caramelised tart and a paler one to compare. Quick 20-minute stops are typical, and long opening hours, from 8 AM to 10 PM on many days, make it easy to fit in around any itinerary.

Reviews

Classic spot in Porto. You can see how Pastel de nata. They are always fresh in this place. I can recommend to take one that is very dark/burned and one that it’s not. Both will be delicious but different. And they are perfect match with a dark coffee. You can pay by card. Toilets are downstairs next to the kitchen.
