Musée de Préhistoire de Terra Amata

4.1 ·

Head to the Musée de Préhistoire de Terra Amata, built on an ancient campsite above Nice. Follow the story of early humans through the exhibits and let the kids tackle the discovery trail, all free of charge.

📖

Full description

Musée de Préhistoire de Terra Amata stands on a hillside site where human ancestors camped some 400,000 years ago, when the area was effectively beachfront. The museum presents findings from the excavation, clearly laid out, and uses QR codes for extra information.

A discovery trail for kids makes it family-friendly, and visitors appreciate how it makes archaeology relatable despite the lack of dramatic artefacts. Admission is free and a visit takes about 45 minutes, which makes it an easy addition to a day exploring the east side of the city.
