Fontaine du Soleil

Meet Apollo at Fontaine du Soleil, the bronze centrepiece of Nice's Place Masséna. Circle the fountain, take in the red-ochre square and walk on towards the seafront.

📖

Full description

Fontaine du Soleil stands in the middle of Place Masséna, Nice's main square, topped by a large bronze figure of Apollo that has attracted local humour and anecdotes since the 1950s. The square around it is framed by ochre-red buildings and linked to the seafront, so the fountain is easy to include on any stroll between the Old Town and the Promenade.

It is open at all hours and works at any time of day, with visitors especially enjoying it in the evening when the square is lit. A quick, free stop of around fifteen minutes.

Reviews

It was a nice stroll along the beach. Beautiful architecture There was a street market with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a section for plants. If you need a public bathroom, be prepared to have a 50cent euro or free if you purchase in a local eatery
