Detour to Villefranche-sur-Mer for Chapelle Saint-Pierre, a tiny chapel transformed by Jean Cocteau. Study his drawings covering the walls in the cool, quiet interior.
Full description
Chapelle Saint-Pierre sits on the waterfront of Villefranche-sur-Mer, a short trip east of Nice, and is best known for the interior Jean Cocteau decorated in the 1950s. The tiny space is covered in his line drawings and scenes, which visitors find the main reason to go.
It is a small chapel, so the visit takes about twenty minutes, and reviewers note that a modest entry fee makes it better value for admirers of Cocteau than for casual visitors. On hot days its cool, empty interior also offers welcome shelter from the sun.

Beautiful Cocteau drawings. Tiny chapel. Went midafternoon when it was very hot, so not many people in town, perfect as chapel was empty. Cool inside.
