Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas de Nice

4.6 ·

Discover the onion domes of Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas, a corner of Russian Orthodox Nice. Step inside the richly decorated church, then stroll its gardens and photograph the exterior.

📖

Full description

Saint-Nicolas Cathedral is a Byzantine-style Orthodox church built on the site where Tsarevich Nicholas died, and it serves the Russian community of Nice and Monaco. Its onion domes make it one of the most photographed buildings in the city, and reviewers regard it as one of the largest Orthodox churches in Western Europe.

The interior is compact but richly decorated, and the gardens around it add to the calm. Because it is an active place of worship, expect to follow dress codes; visitors report being offered a scarf at the door when needed.

A short, atmospheric stop that feels distinctly different from Nice's Catholic churches.
