Maximilianeum

4.5 ·

Look up at the Maximilianeum, the seat of Bavaria's parliament above the Isar. Admire it from the riverside park and watch locals enjoy the water on warm days.

📖

Full description

The Maximilianeum in Au-Haidhausen is the seat of the Bavarian State Parliament, set on a rise above the Isar River within a park. The interior can only be seen on a guided tour, so most visitors admire it from outside, and some reviews note scaffolding and construction that limited the view.

The riverside setting is popular in summer, when swimmers use the Isar nearby, giving the area a relaxed, lively feel. It is free to visit the grounds at all hours, and a stop takes about 15 minutes.

Good to know

  • Book a guided tour in advance if you want to see inside, as the interior is not open to casual visitors
  • view it from across the river for the best perspective
  • check for scaffolding before going if photos matter.

Reviews

Not very impressive for now with all of the scaffolding and construction. Also you can only see it from afar and cannot access it because it is a government building. Sadly this is one of the few places in Munich you should not waste your time visiting until they change things.
