Settle into Hirschgarten, the sprawling Munich park famous for its vast chestnut-shaded beer garden. Watch the deer in their enclosure, let the kids loose on the playgrounds, and raise a stein under the trees.

📖

Full description

Hirschgarten is a green park in western Munich, built around a large traditional beer garden that is among the biggest in Europe, with a history reaching back to 1780. Within the grounds a deer reserve of about two hectares lets visitors watch the animals from the enclosure's edge.

The setting works for families thanks to the playgrounds and open lawns, while locals come for the Bavarian beer-garden routine, including collecting a stein from the shelf and rinsing it at the fountain. Food is served in self-service style, with smoked fish a regional favourite.

Reviews

Lovely beer garden in the park! You collect your maß from the cupboard and wash/cool in the sink before getting it filled; have a few and enjoy a mackerel smoked on site while watching the deer! Very family vibes, separate BBQ area at the entrance. Short walk from train station (past a Lidl!)
