Frauenkirche

4.6 ·

Enter the Frauenkirche, the twin-towered cathedral that anchors Munich's skyline. Stand on the Devil's footprint in the entrance hall, then spend time in the quiet, restored Gothic nave.

📖

Full description

The Frauenkirche, with its two distinctive towers, defines Munich's skyline and is among the city's best-known landmarks. The Gothic church was bombed in 1945 and carefully restored, and visitors comment on both the scale of that rebuilding and the calm of the interior, which is plainer than many Catholic churches.

Near the entrance, a dark mark known as the Devil's footprint is tied to a local legend. A visit takes about half an hour, and the church is free to enter, making it an easy stop between other central sights.

Reviews

Always great visiting the large cathedrals around Europe. This one was another delight to visit in Old Town Munich. No fee to go inside but a fee to go up in the towers. Beautiful architecture that was not overly done.
