Chiesa di San Marco

4.5 ·

Slip into Chiesa di San Marco for a calm break in the heart of Brera. Admire the white vaulted nave, the baroque frescoes and the lighting in the side chapels before lingering on the piazza.

📖

Full description

Chiesa di San Marco stands on a small piazza in the Brera district, a short walk from the busier centre. Founded in the 13th century, it mixes Gothic-Romanesque bones with a baroque interior of frescoes, white vaulted ceilings and tall columns that give the nave a lighter feel than many Milan churches.

Reviewers describe it as large, quiet and often overlooked, with interesting lighting in some chapels and Braille signage for visitors. Entry is free and a visit takes about 20 minutes, which makes it an easy stop between Brera's galleries and cafés.

Reviews

Large quiet church with interesting art. I especially like the interesting lighting on some of the spaces and the use of Braille signage. The piazza outside is also quite nice.
