Neptune Fountain

4.6 ·

Pause at the Neptune Fountain on the Paseo del Prado, one of Madrid's classic neoclassical monuments. Admire the white marble sea god on his shell-shaped chariot and pair the stop with the neighbouring fountains along the avenue.

📖

Full description

The Neptune Fountain stands at the middle of a busy roundabout on the Paseo del Prado and shows the sea god riding a shell-shaped chariot, carved in white marble. It belongs to the sculptural ensemble designed by Ventura Rodríguez for the avenue, alongside the Fountain of Apollo and the Fountain of Cybele.

Visitors describe it as a fine example of 18th-century sculpture, though one reviewer found it somewhat cold and distant, which fits its position amid traffic. It is open around the clock and free, so it works as a short photo stop between the nearby art museums.
