La Latina

Lose yourself in La Latina, one of Madrid's oldest quarters. Weave through medieval lanes, hop between tapas bars on Cava Baja, and browse the Sunday market that spills through the streets.

📖

Full description

La Latina is one of the oldest parts of Madrid, with a layout of narrow, winding streets inherited from the medieval city. It is best known for the dense cluster of tapas bars along Calle de la Cava Baja and for the Sunday El Rastro flea market that spills into its lanes.

Small squares such as Plaza de la Paja and the church-adjacent plazas give it a village-like character in the middle of the city. The atmosphere is convivial and busy, especially on Sundays and at lunchtime, with people moving from bar to bar.
