4.7 ·

Discover Casa de la Villa, Madrid's former city hall on the atmospheric Plaza de la Villa. Study its Habsburg-era facade and wander the preserved square that surrounds it.

📖

Full description

Casa de la Villa served as Madrid's city hall from 1693 to 2007 and is the largest of the historic buildings on Plaza de la Villa. Its design reflects the Austrian style of the ruling Habsburg dynasty, with later elements adding to the mix of influences.

The square around it is well preserved and feels like a pocket of the old city, which is what most visitors come for. Booking is recommended if you want to see inside, while the exterior and the square can be enjoyed freely at any hour.

Reviews

The town hall building that was used from 1693 to 2007 and was built in Austrian style (because the royal family that ruled at the time, Hapsburg, was Austrian)
