Walthamstow Wetlands opened to the public in 2017 after the reservoirs supplying much of London's drinking water were adapted for shared use with wildlife and visitors. The site is split by Forest Road into northern and southern sections, both threaded with paths past open water where herons, cormorants, and migrating waterfowl are common sights.
It has a working, industrial edge — pump houses and reservoir infrastructure remain visible — that gives it a different atmosphere from London's more manicured parks.
