Full description

Reopened after a major renovation, the National Portrait Gallery tells the story of British history and culture through the people who shaped it, from Tudor monarchs to contemporary musicians and public figures. Its central Trafalgar Square location and free admission make it an easy addition to a day spent at the neighboring National Gallery, and its perfect culture score and strong rating reflect a collection with genuine substance beyond novelty.

Reviewers note that it can get busy and noisy, particularly with school groups, which is worth factoring into timing. At around 90 minutes, it's a manageable, art-focused stop rather than a full-day undertaking.

Reviews

Went to the Marilyn Monroe exhibition, loved it! All v well organised, not too many people (Thursday lunchtime) beautifully exhibited, mainly photos, telling the story thru imagery. Lunch in the forth floor restaurant The Portrait was excellent, food, vino, service & views.
