Food

Holy Carrot Bistro Spitalfields

4.5 (101)$$ · Mid-range

Holy Carrot serves a fully plant-based menu with enough flavour and substance, according to reviewers, to satisfy even committed meat-eaters at the table, including one large family gathering where the self-described carnivores among them still left full and happy. Service gets a mixed but largely positive mention — warm and lovely staff, occasionally slow to greet guests during busy periods. At 4.5 stars, mid-range pricing, and a smaller review base suggesting it's still building its reputation, it suits a relaxed lunch or dinner for groups wanting a genuinely good vegetarian or vegan option rather than an afterthought menu. It's a solid choice for mixed dietary groups.

✨ Reasons to go

  • 1The menu is fully plant-based, yet reviewers note it satisfies even committed meat-eaters in the group.
  • 2The restaurant was featured in a review by food critic Grace Dent.
  • 3This Spitalfields location is the vegetarian-focused branch, distinct from its Notting Hill sibling.

💡 Good to know

  • 1Booking is recommended, especially for larger groups
  • 2go in confident it can satisfy non-vegetarians too, since reviewers specifically note this
  • 3be patient if greeted a little slowly during busy service, as reviewers mention this as an occasional hiccup rather than the norm

What people say

"Food was absolutely phenomenal but there were clearly teething problems with service. Our server was lovely but no one greeted us for some time as we came in despite staff walking past us, plates weren’t changed and it didn’t feel like there was a desire to engage with customers as much as I expected. The food was genuinely outstanding, hopefully this improves as the young staff team develop"
