Landmark
Built in 1816, Brixton Windmill is one of the few working windmills left within Greater London, having ground flour commercially into the early 20th century before falling into disuse and eventual restoration; volunteers now run it as a small heritage site with occasional milling demonstrations and community events like the May Day Mayfest one reviewer mentions. With a 4.5 rating, it's a genuine hidden gem in a part of London rarely associated with historic industry, and its high hidden-gem score in the data reflects how few visitors seek it out compared to central landmarks. It suits curious locals and history enthusiasts happy to venture into Brixton rather than typical first-time tourists.

What people say
"An enjoyable day at the Mayfest event celebrating may day folk traditions on bank holiday Monday. The tours for the windmill was fully booked however still nice to see the windmill up close. A nice small shop serving their own flour and other souvenirs of brixton windmill including cards, mugs, magnets and badges. Also worth checking out other events they do throughout the year."
