Discover the Mãe d'Água das Amoreiras, a hidden 18th-century reservoir built to celebrate Lisbon's water supply. Step inside the quiet vaulted space and walk around the reservoir in about half an hour.

📖

Full description

The Mãe d'Água das Amoreiras is an ornate 18th-century reservoir complex built to receive and celebrate the arrival of water in Lisbon, with fountains that announce it. Visitors enter through a gate and up a stairway to the enclosed reservoir, where reviewers describe a calm space that feels like a hidden gem.

Afternoon events use projectors around the reservoir interior, according to one visitor. Opening hours are short and it is closed on Mondays, so check ahead.

About 30 minutes is enough to walk the reservoir and see the interior.

Reviews

This place is much better of you get tickets for the afternoon events which start at 2pm. They have projectors all around this reservoir inside. We simply paid to walk around what looked like a pool and read the history. The doors open at 10am which is when we arrived but the real ooohhh and awe we believe is for…
