Wander down to Cais das Colunas, the columned quay where Praça do Comércio meets the river. Sit on the marble steps and watch the Tagus and the far bank, especially around sunset.

📖

Full description

Cais das Colunas is the ceremonial landing point at the southern edge of Praça do Comércio, marked by two tall columns and a broad flight of marble steps leading straight to the water. It is open around the clock and free to visit.

Reviewers describe a calm place to sit, walk or listen to the water, with views across the Tagus toward Almada and a small sandy area beside the steps. It is especially popular toward sunset, when the light over the river draws people from the square.

A short stop of about 20 minutes suits most visitors.

Its a beautiful square on the beach of the river, with an amazing view and on calm days it is peaceful enough to just sit there or have a walk and enjoy the view of the river and Almada across the river.
