Visit Belém Tower, Lisbon's iconic Manueline fortress on the edge of the Tagus. Climb through its rooms to the rooftop terrace and look out over the estuary.
Full description
Belém Tower was built in the early 16th century to guard the entrance to Lisbon's harbour and is among the best-known examples of Manueline architecture. Set right beside the Tagus estuary, its ornate stonework and river setting make it one of the city's most photographed landmarks.
Visitors can go inside, climb through the tower and reach the rooftop terrace for views over the water. Opinions differ on whether the interior justifies the entry price, with some visitors finding the exterior the main draw.
A visit typically takes around 45 minutes, more with a queue.

Absolutely loved our visit to Belem Tower! A highlight of our Lisbon stay. It's beautiful from the outside and magical inside. Great idea to book the first slot of the day... enjoying almost empty rooms and taking advantage of a quiet moment of contemplation on one of the window seats was sublime.
