Cross the Vistula into Podgórze, the district tied to the Kraków Ghetto and the story behind Schindler's Factory. Pause at Ghetto Heroes Square, follow remaining stretches of the ghetto wall, and explore the neighbourhood's quieter squares.
Full description
Podgórze lies on the south bank of the Vistula and was the site of the Kraków Ghetto during the Second World War, which gives parts of the district a solemn weight. Ghetto Heroes Square, with its field of empty chairs, and the preserved sections of the ghetto wall are key stops, while the Schindler's Factory museum is within walking distance.
Beyond the memorial sites, Podgórze has pleasant squares, Kopiec Krakusa viewpoint, and a lower-key residential character. It is an important complement to a visit to Kazimierz.
