Pause at Hamid-i Evvel Camii, the Beylerbeyi Mosque on Istanbul's Asian side. Spend a quarter of an hour at this 18th-century mosque built by a sultan in his mother's memory.
Full description
Hamid-i Evvel Camii, also known as Beylerbeyi Mosque, was commissioned by Sultan Abdulhamid I in memory of his mother, Rabia Sermi Sultan, and opened for worship in 1778. Reviewers praise its exterior view and the quality of the imam's recitation, while noting that the women's prayer area upstairs is small and lacks windows.
It is an active neighbourhood mosque, free to enter, and a visit of about fifteen minutes is enough. It suits travellers who want a local mosque experience on the Asian side, away from the main tourist circuit.

The view of the mosque is amazing. However, the women’s prayer area on the second floor is small and disappointing — it has no windows, and you can’t see anything from there, Compared to the men’s section. and compared to other mosques, it doesn’t seem to be cleaned very often. So if you come here to pray, I recommend…
