Arasta Çarşısı

4.3 ·

Wander Arasta Çarşısı, the quiet historic bazaar behind the Blue Mosque. Browse spices, pottery, rugs and souvenirs at an unhurried pace, haggling gently with relaxed shopkeepers along a charming market street.

📖

Full description

Arasta Çarşısı is a compact historic bazaar tucked behind the Blue Mosque, dating to the 17th century, when the rent from its shops helped fund the mosque's upkeep. Visitors find a calmer atmosphere than Istanbul's larger markets, with sellers who are less pushy and room to browse at your own pace.

Stalls offer spices, ceramics, rugs and gifts, and reviewers note that asking prices run high enough that bargaining is worthwhile. It is small, so roughly 45 minutes is plenty, and it fits naturally into a Sultanahmet sightseeing day.

  • combine it with a Blue Mosque visit since it sits directly behind it.

Reviews

It’s a good shopping place for gifts. Prices are higher so you have to bargain. It is a small bazaar. Online it mentioned it is open until 11 but majority of the shops closed by 9. It is better to come earlier.
