Monet lived and gardened at this Giverny property from 1883 to 1926, and the house and gardens were restored to their original state in the late 1970s. Visitors can explore the pink-mortar house, the Clos Normand flower garden, and the water garden with its famous lily pond, arched bridge, and bamboo-lined stream. The site is open seasonally from April to November and draws visitors worldwide as one of Normandy's most-visited attractions.

"The gardens are beautiful, but I think July might not be the best time to visit. Most of the spectacular blooms are already over, so what’s left is mainly summer perennials. To me, parts of the garden looked like a Chelsea Flower Show display rather than the kind of garden I personally enjoy. Maybe it’s because I’m a gardener, but I spent more time thinking, “I’d trim this, I’d plant something there, and I’d definitely pull out those weeds.” To me, parts of the garden looked a bit overgrown rather than carefully maintained. I know that’s probably part of the style, and many people will love it, but it just wasn’t my thing. The water lily pond, though… that’s a completely different story. It really is stunning and absolutely worth seeing✨🤍"
