The Georgian House (National Trust for Scotland)

4.6 ·

Step inside The Georgian House on Charlotte Square, an Adam-designed townhouse from the 18th century. Walk its grand staircase and period rooms, taking in Scottish art and furniture that bring New Town life back to view.

📖

Full description

The Georgian House, run by the National Trust for Scotland, shows how a wealthy family lived in Edinburgh's New Town in the late 18th century. Designed by Robert Adam, it is furnished with period furniture and Scottish artworks, and visitors pass portraits of notable Edinburgh figures on the way up a grand staircase.

A short film and a temporary exhibition add context, and a shop is on site. Reviewers find it more absorbing than expected, and National Trust members get in without extra charge.

About 45 minutes is enough.

Reviews

What a beautiful period Propert within Charlotte square in Edinburghs new town. Grand entrance and beautiful staircase. Pictures of the great and good from Edinburghs past are on the walls on the way up the stairs. All of the rooms are lovingly restored to fit the period. Well worth a visit and the basement is so…
