Full description

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery sits in a grand red-stone Victorian building on Queen Street and holds portraits of figures from Scottish history and culture, from monarchs to modern celebrities. Reviewers praise the building and the way the historical context behind each painting is explained.

It is not a large gallery, so most visitors finish in one to two hours. Entry is free, and the shop and cafe make it an easy, comfortable stop for a morning or afternoon.

Reviews

Amazing and surprising place. It does move you in a different way, as the way one portrays does change your perception when it comes to their lives. Pretty interesting. Also, we passed by a group with a guide. Let it be known that the guide had the best perm and pearl necklace I have ever seen. Such a diva!
