Discover Mansfield Traquair, the converted church known as Edinburgh's Sistine Chapel. Step inside on an open day to take in the painted murals, stained glass and elegant stonework.

📖

Full description

Mansfield Traquair is a converted church whose walls and ceilings carry ornate painted decoration by artist Phoebe Anna Traquair, which is why reviewers nickname it Edinburgh's Sistine Chapel. It now functions as an event venue, so general access is limited and visits are best planned around its public open days, listed on the venue's schedule.

Opening hours show weekdays only, with Saturday closed. Entry is free, and the interior rewards a short, quiet visit of around 20 minutes spent looking at the stonework, stained glass and painted detail.

Reviews

A fascinating place to visit on one of the monthly open days - see photo for schedule. While I am sure it is spectacular as an event venue, to have the time to wander and wonder at the building interior is an hour well spent. Knowledgable guides bring to life to story of the murals and the history of the building.…
