Edinburgh New Town

Wander Edinburgh's New Town, the Georgian counterpart to the medieval Old Town. Follow its ordered streets and garden squares, admiring honey-coloured townhouses and long views across the city.

📖

Full description

The New Town is a grid of Georgian streets, crescents and garden squares built from the late 18th century north of the Old Town, and it forms part of Edinburgh's UNESCO World Heritage site. Wide streets such as George Street, Queen Street and Princes Street are lined with uniform sandstone townhouses, while Charlotte Square and the Moray Estate show the style at its most refined.

It is a district for unhurried walking, taking in architecture, shopfronts and glimpses of the Firth of Forth. Allow around two hours to cover its main streets and squares.
