Wander up to Duddingston Kirk, a tiny Romanesque church above Duddingston Loch. Look over the old gravestones, spot the octagonal gatehouse and enjoy the stillness of the village.
Full description
Duddingston Kirk stands in its churchyard on a slight rise overlooking Duddingston Loch, a parish church first built in the 12th century as a small Romanesque building and enlarged later. The octagonal gatehouse at the entrance dates from the early 1800s, when watchers guarded the graveyard against body-snatchers.
Reviewers describe a peaceful kirk and kirkyard, worth a short visit when passing along Old Church Lane, for example after a meal at the nearby Sheep Heid. Allow around fifteen minutes to see the grounds and exterior.

Tiny little Church and cemetery just off Duddingston Loch. We passed this travelling along Old Church Lane on our way back to Edinburgh having just visited the Sheep Heid. Worth a quick visit to admire the architecture and look at the finely carved benches and signs.
