Colinton Station & Tunnel

4.7 ·

Walk through Colinton Tunnel, an old railway tunnel transformed into a storybook mural. Follow the illustrated Robert Louis Stevenson poem along the walls and out onto a leafy nature path.

📖

Full description

Colinton Tunnel is a disused railway tunnel on a nature path, covered inside with a long mural that illustrates a Robert Louis Stevenson poem about his childhood in Colinton. The artwork is by a well-known artist and includes contributions from local school pupils, and reviewers advise looking at the walls and roof so nothing is missed.

The approach is a pleasant walk through greenery, making it suitable for families as well as art lovers. A small car park holds only about ten cars, so arriving on foot or early helps.

Allow around half an hour.

Reviews

Small car park for only 10 cars, managed to get parked. Lovely wee walk to and back chatting with others. Artwork is brilliant and you need to explore all walls n roof not to miss any wee added on animal flowers or faces. Great skill in planning as it all blends together making a fantastic mural which is a credit to…
