The Famine Memorial

4.7 ·

Stand among the figures of the Famine Memorial on Dublin's quays. Walk around the life-sized sculptures, read the panel and reflect on the human cost of the famine.

📖

Full description

The Famine Memorial is an outdoor sculpture group of gaunt, life-sized figures walking along the quays in Dublin's docklands, commemorating Ireland's mid-19th-century famine. Reviewers describe it as moving and detailed, with the emotion of the figures clear even before reading the information panel.

It is open at all hours and free, and about 15 minutes is enough to walk around it. One reviewer advises treating it as a stand-alone stop and not assuming a nearby museum adds to it.

It suits visitors interested in Irish history and culture.

Reviews

Moving memorial which gives you more information on the panel as the EPIC museum does as a whole. So do NOT combine the memorial and the museum. Visit and respect the memorial but definitely skip the museum. The memorial is easily reached making a nice stroll along the river Liffey.
