Discover Ashtown Castle, a medieval tower house tucked away inside Phoenix Park. Step inside the restored stone building, then wander the walled garden and paths before a coffee at the nearby cafe.

📖

Full description

Ashtown Castle is a small medieval tower house in Phoenix Park, uncovered when a later Georgian house built around it was demolished. It sits next to the park's visitor centre, with free entry and a compact interior that suits a short visit.

The surrounding walled garden, paths and cafe make it an easy stop within a longer walk through the park. Reviewers praise the old-style atmosphere, the glazed winter garden and the calm gardens, and note that the car park fills up on busy days.

Expect around 45 minutes, longer if you linger over coffee.

Reviews

Had a leisurely stroll around the Walled Garden, very impressive. We really enjoyed the coffee and Vegan sausage rolls in the Cafè. This place is very popular, we were lucky to get a parking space in the large car park. We will definitely be back.
