Head out to ARKEN in Ishøj for contemporary art in a building as bold as the shows inside. Move through rotating exhibitions and the permanent painting, sculpture and photography collection, then pause at the cafe.
Full description
ARKEN sits in Ishøj, a short trip out of central Copenhagen, and combines rotating exhibitions with a permanent collection of painting, sculpture and photography. Reviewers describe a building that is worth seeing in itself, shows that challenge visitors and programming that engages children and young adults as well as art lovers.
Several repeat visitors say each visit brings a fresh exhibition, and the cafe gets praise too. Plan around 90 minutes, and book ahead if a major exhibition is on.
It suits couples and anyone who likes contemporary art outside the city centre.

Reviews
Denmark knows how to do art museums and this place is no different. Art should challenge the comfortable and Arken does that with style and grace, within a beautiful building. The cafe serves gorgeous food and the beach is a stone’s throw away from the museum. I love this place!
