Klotild Palaces

4.6 ·

Pause at the Klotild Palaces, Budapest's elegant pair of twin buildings near the river. Take in the symmetrical facades, carved details and corner towers, then compare the two sides of the street at your own pace.

📖

Full description

The Klotild Palaces are a pair of matching late 19th-century buildings flanking the Pest end of the Erzsébet Bridge approach, commissioned under the patronage of Archduchess Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Their symmetrical facades, ornate stonework and commanding corner towers make them one of the district's most photographed architectural ensembles.

Both buildings have been fully renovated and now house hotels, with the St. Regis on the north side and the Matild Palace on the south.

Reviewers single out the detailed exterior and its elegance, and a quick look from the street is all most visitors need.
